Etsy and my 200th Sale in 3 months

So like many people I had my Etsy account for over a year before I thought about really selling anything and taking it head on. And this past September earlier November I decided this was it. I had an idea of what I wanted to sell, my illustrations on stuff, but what stuff. So I simply went through Pinterest, Etsy and took notes on what I thought I would enjoy making and what I could produce well. Quality is important, even my note cards if there is a mark out of place then I won’t sell it. I saw that your customer service really played a part and this is also big in the success of Amazon, so I try really hard to get back to people and let them know when I have shipped. AND I ship as fast as I can. Not daily but it is every other day, even for just one or two packages. It helps I live next to the postoffice. So right there first make something good, second send asap, no fooling around, but then it’s about the way you put that information into your listing. I feel a break down is needed.

Title. Describe your item several ways, I put a comma between my descriptions.
Description. Really try to use the same words in your title but also add a little. It’s been said that google see’s this and will rate you higher, and when I did it I did get rated higher.
Key Words: These are very important and you should use all 13 and all 20 characters they allow. Don’t just put cat, put Catnip Cat Toy. Single key words will make your item come in last and get lost.

Now about ads. Yes I do spend $5 to $20 a week depending on sales. I know this is a part of business, but the cool thing is you can turn it on and off so at night I will turn it off so it’s not running up my bill, but during high traffic times I will turn it back on. I don’t really see sales, matter of fact it’s just more impressions than actual traffic but I feel that it does help boost my key word search and I like the breakdown that they give me. But I think out of all 200 sales only 4 may have come directly from the ads. What’s cool is you can actually tell that in their statistics.

So what is my plan now. I am looking at other blogs and contests and hopefully that will keep the momentum up. Good luck on your Etsy shop and if your interested in seeing more of my Etsy creations please visit me at www.etsy.com/shop/doodlebutton

  1. Hi Amanda,

Very good post, especially for new sellers.

Wanted to let you know that the link to your etsy shop is broken – its appending the blog url before the shop url.
